weather is in the town where I live.
The winter weather here in Great Falls Montana is much like the winters of West Stewartstown New Hampshire but not the constant cold. They have a bigger swing in the temps here. I have already seen temps in the 50s here in December not something you see in northern NH. But I have also seen temps well below zero here in Great Falls. NH is a beautiful place to live but Montana is something else. I am glad I made the move here. The best way to describe Montana is to give you a definition for Montana.
Montana = Every blink of the eyes a new postcard......every tick of the clock a National Geographic moment. That is why I believe beyond all doubt the ultimate place to be is! Montana.

How about that another post already. I have posted 76 landscape pictures from my May camping trip to Yellowstone to a new photo album. Remember I am still new to using a gallery to post my pictures. This album is my first mistake, Really! My first mistake ever! 76 pictures is too many, so you might need to pack a lunch to see all the pictures in this album. A little FYI this is still a work in process and I will be tweaking it from time to time. The next album could look a little different but it will work the same. Another trip to Glacier National Park plus a three hundred and fifty mile loop from Great Falls Montana to Browning, to the route 2 Goat Lick to see some mountain goats then on to West Glacier, Kalispell, Flathead lake, Polson, Bigfork through the Swan River National Wildlife Refuge and the Lolo National Forest on to Lincoln Montana then back to Great Falls. Not part of the loop but a beautiful side trip of thirty five miles from Browning to Saint Mary Montana. To see pictures of the goats and some of the scenic pictures I took click here.

YES! Another post already. Your favorite curmudgeon Layz1 has out done himself with almost rapid fire posts, lets here it for the Layz1. I should have called this post here a geese there a geese everywhere a geese, geese. I went to Freezeout Lake in Fairfield Montana twice in less then a week for the spring migration of snow Geese an I was not disappointed. There were about 100,000 geese there on my second trip. I also went to the Sun River Canyon in Augusta Montana the same day. Just click here to see some of the pictures I took.

Your favorite curmudgeon Layz1 is on the move. My most recent test show that my April test were wrong. I don't need a stent added to my arteries, so they tell me all systems are go for my Montana move. I will be on my way Saturday June 28, I hope to pull into Great falls in 3 to 5 days from this Saturday. You might have noticed that the weather sticker near the top of the page now reads Great Falls Montana. FYI if you don't see a post from me in the next six weeks or so call the FBI, CIA and the Canadian Mounted Police. Stay tuned for pictures from my drive and the wildlife of Montana.

Update on my Montana move. I was suppose to head for Great Falls Montana on the first of May but things did not go as well as I had hoped on my April doctors visit. It seems my arteries are still blocking up, drat the luck! So here is the new plan. They will put in a stent, probability about mid June. After I have my first follow up, if all goes according to plan I should be able to get on my way by July 1st. Keep the faith I believe I will get to Montana, or to pu it another way you might better relate to " I have hiiiiigh hopes, I will move that rubber tree plant" wish me luck.

I mentioned awhile back on my blog that I would post some pictures of the covered bridges that are still left in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire so that is what I am doing today. Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
The gruesome twosome, that being the Turnpike Turtle and your favorite curmudgeon Layz1 are back on the road again. As you can see from the picture on the left there was still plenty of snow left on the ground but the temperature top out at fifty degrees on this day. And just a few days before the bike ride I went looking for some critters to photograph. It seems this would be a lucky day for the Layz1, there were a number of critters out and about willing to pose for some pictures. Berrrrr it has been brutally cold up here in the Great North Woods the last two weeks. It has been well below zero every night and down to twenty five to twenty eight below most nights. But that is the north country and we live with it, and sometimes love it. But right now I myself I'm damn tired of it. However it is always worth it to live here just check this out. Finally I am updating my web site. I know it has been a long time since my last update but I have a good reason, however I can't tell anyone it is a big secret. I Know it has been awhile since I have posted anything, but it has been a busy summer. I did go to Radisson Quebec on vacation and have some good video of the Rupert river. I have posted a clip of the Rupert and a Radisson Quebec dump bear near the top of the page for your viewing pleasure. I believe I mentioned earlier on this web page that Hydro-Quebec will divert eighty percent of this river to one of its hydro plants in 2007. I believe this to be one of the last wild rivers in this part of Quebec that one can drive to but if you have not seen it yet it most likely will not be there for long next year then it is gone forever. I will write more about this river and my vacation as we get closer to winter. That is usually When I have more time. So till then have a happy and a healthy.

img 0815 The last few days of March and the first few days of April made for some fair to great biking weather. The last few days of March being the fair days and the first few days of April being the great days for riding. The riding season could not come quick enough for me, I have put on fifteen pounds of couch potato fat this winter and I need to take it off as soon as possible. So I jumped right on the bike in late March even know the temperature was only 45 degrees and the sun was nowhere to be seen. A little FYI for you I have renamed the bike I will no longer refer to it as "Old Silver Bike." From this day forth I shall call it the "Highway Turtle." So it is written so it shall be done. As you can tell from the where's Layz1 picture of the Highway Turtle on the left there was still snow on the ground at the time of this ride. But this was early April the temperature was in the middle to high 60s and sunny, just a great day to be out cycling. The Highway Turtle and I started the season with a bang, in just seven days we logged over eighty miles. I felt like I lost a few pounds but my family tells me I didn't lose it I just put it behind me where I can't see it. Sometimes I can just hate honesty how about you? This bike ride produced a number of where's Layz1 pictures so don't be surprised if you see pictures with some snow in them most of the summer. As always if you can guess where I am you still can win your very own box of nothing, and remember I will deliver the nothing to your door but you must supply your own box. April is also the start of baseball season and the game just came on the TV. So let me say have a happy and a healthy and goodbye until another day.

elkOnce again it is time for a round of where is Layz1 on this day. You will need some hints to get this one because I'm not in the Great North Woods of New Hampshire. Instead I am in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. A quick look at the picture on the left will tell you that I am at an Elk ranch your job is to tell me what town Layz1 is in. If you still can't guess where I am you only need to go to my blog and read my latest post there. But keep in mind that if you go to my blog to find the answer you will not be eligible for your free box of nothing.

On to new business, the weather up here in the great north woods is as cold now as it was in December and January maybe even colder. It was not a real cold winter here but it is turning out to be a damn long one and the month of March has had little sunshine. I hate to say this but I am anxious to start swatting those pesty black flies and no seeums. I have put on 15lbs of fat this winter and it looks like it will be close to another month before I can get any calorie burning bike riding in. I also can't wait for August when my niece and I will make the drive to Raddison Quebec for our vacation. This will be our second trip there. We went there three years ago where we saw the northern lights for the first time. This trip involves driving the James bay highway through almost four hundred miles of nothing but wilderness. I will tell you more about this trip and why it is so important to me later this spring. As the old saying goes "that's all he wrote" at least for this day.

Well the cold weather finally came to the Great North Woods of New Hampshire, so this is a good time to update my web site. Do you remember way back when, like last summer I said I had a clip of a cow moose and her calf that I would post to my web page some day? Well today is that day. I also said that I would make it small enough for the people with dial-up, and after a long hard fight I have done just that. As you may have gussed it is not easy to compress one moose let alone two. First I put a big bear hug on them to get the process started, then I put them up against a tree and repeatedly slammed my shoulder into them till they were narrow and tall. Now it was time for the hard part I had to climb up on top of them and jump up and down untill they were compressed to the maximum. If you can't picture me doing this then you have no imagination so get the hell off my web site! That was that damn curmudgeon speaking, but once again I am back in control. Don't pay any attention to him stick around and enjoy the fruits of my labor, check out the moose clip. After all my hugging, slamming and jumping, Walla! Well I have great news folks, I now have a new laptop computer so I can fail to update my web page from anywhere in the country. Is that cool, or what! On a more serious side I saw a Bald Eagle the other day, he was perched in a tree right on rt,3 in Colebrook NH just a few miles from my place. What a treat. I tried to get a picture for the web site but he was gone quicker then a hic-cup. It turns out, according to our local newspaper there were two of them hanging around there feeding off a deer carcass down by the Connecticut River just a few hundred feet away. If I had realized that I would have found the carcass and staked it out for a few hours and tried to get some pictures and video of them eating there. But when the paper came out the next day it was to cold to go sit in the brush and wait for them to show up. And the thermometer has not been out of the single digits since. However it is suppose to warm up a little this week and if the carcass is still there I will try to get some pictures and video of them. But for now you will have to take my word for it, it was an awesome site to see. I should have realized that it was not watching the river for fish this time of year, I know they are scavengers and should have looked for what it was feeding on. My bad. Your loss, sucks to be you, great to be me. But fear not the curmudgeon you love to hate is on the job up here in the Great North Woods and I will do my best to track down Mr.Or Miss. Eagle and get a few pictures for you. Well that's all I have for now, except today is a holiday so let me say Happy Presidents Day to all, and to all a good night.

First a little about me,damn little

I live in the "Great North Woods" of New Hampshire, just a hop skip and a jump from Canada. I'm single and four years older then dirt. I share my home with a gang of Dust Bunnies, that might sound weird to you but take my word for it, it can happen. Now for a little update a damn little update about me. As of July 1st 2008 I now live in Great falls Montana. And I did bring the Dust Bunnies with me so don't worry about them.
