My First Camping trip to Glacier National Park.
I spent five nights six awesome days camping at the Apgar campground in Glacier National Park in July. I did two small hikes, one to Hidden Lake. A 1.5 mile hike that starts just behind the Logan Pass Visitors Center the highest point on the Going To The Sun Road elevation 6646 feet. The hike requires climbing another 500 feet to get to the lake overlook, about half the hike is a combination of steps and a steady but gradual climb on a boardwalk the last half is a gravel trail with a gradual climb to the Hidden Lake Overlook. From the boardwalk you can see quite a few Big Horn Sheep this time of year. Once on the gravel trail you walk side by side with Mountain Goats and see lots of Ground Squirrels. As the pictures show there is still some snow left at this elevation.
The second hike was to Avalanche Lake on the west side of the Continental Divide between Apgar and Logan Pass on the Going To The Sun Road. The trail starts at Avalanche Creek and is just under 2.5 miles long and also climbs 500 feet but that is a bit deceiving because the trail is up and down so you climb the same footage a number of times. But still an easy hike if you take your time, what the heck if you are like me you have all day and the trip down is fast even for a curmudgeon like me, just over an hour and a half. On this hike an 8 point buck walked out on the trail in front of me you will see the pictures below along with pictures from the Hidden Lake hike and other pictures from this trip. I can't get over how great it is to be this curmudgeon, the Layz1.
